The Behavioral and Neural Impact of Childhood Stressors
Abhidi has been passionate about neuroscience ever since middle school and was curious about how childhood experiences can shape who someone is in adulthood. She leads an organization that raises money and aids those with childhood trauma and neurodegenerative disorders through creative expression. She wanted to connect these ideas by researching the impact of childhood stressors. After reading many research papers, Abhidi was able to group these into parental (child abuse, neglect, and deprivation), peer (bullying and isolation from peers), and societal stressors (systemic racism and sexism). She wrote about the neural impacts of these stressors and she connected them to how, in turn, they can lead to behavioral impacts that continue in adolescence and adulthood.
Abhidi wrote a research paper which she is currently working on submitting to scientific journals.
Sori really helped me understand what the research paper writing process was like and how to understand research papers. She guided me while also leaving me in charge of the project, and I knew if I had any questions, she was open. She made sure that my final project was an accurate reflection of my work and a strong candidate for journals to publish.
