Summary
This student’s project focuses on designing a prosthetic device for the wrist that restores essential movement, comfort, and usability for individuals with limb loss or impairment. The research emphasizes understanding wrist biomechanics, translating these into engineering requirements, and exploring different design approaches—mechanical, electromechanical, and myoelectric. Alongside conceptual design and CAD modeling, the project incorporates material selection, ergonomics, and user-centered considerations to ensure functionality and comfort. The outcome will be a detailed research paper supported by literature review, design development, and a proposed testing plan, culminating in a final prototype concept and presentation. This presentation will include a hypothetical view as to the design with real metal alloys to serve as materials.

Project review
“My experience with my project was phenomenal. I had the opportunity to understand how to research information on a topic that I was interested in, and got to see that research culminate in the form of a research paper. This experience was also helped by my mentor, who was both knowledgeable and guided me through the entire process. The CORE program as well was helpful in getting to talk with people in the field I was interested in, helping me narrow down my project ideas.”
About my mentor
“Jasleen is an excellent mentor and very knowledgeable on a wide variety of topics/possible research subjects. She is a good listener with how she listened to my researched notes and progress on my paper and 3D model each week. She saw both where I had done well and areas for improvement/expansion. Her experience and background in coding and engineering allows her to understand and help expand upon a variety of research topics.”
