Bio
Hi Everyone! I'm Briana Banks, a PhD-trained Cancer Biologist with research expertise in understanding how metabolic and epigenetic factors influence breast cancer development. My doctoral work explored how chronic psychological stress during key developmental periods, such as puberty and early adulthood, can shape long-term breast cancer risk. Beyond research, I am passionate about mentorship, outreach, and science communication. I love helping students explore scientific questions, design meaningful projects, and build confidence as emerging scholars. Outside of work, I’m an avid traveler, a big foodie, and someone who enjoys sharing science in relatable and empowering ways.Project ideas
Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.
Glucocorticoid Receptor Activation and Breast Cancer Progression
A literary review of a key stress pathway and its impact on breast cancer progression. Elucidating how activation of the glucocorticoid receptor and its downstream target genes lead to breast cancer metastasis and invasion.
Teaching experience
I have taught and mentored students throughout both my undergraduate and graduate training. I served as a Teaching Assistant for multiple courses, including a research-writing and grant-development course where I guided students through scientific communication, proposal framing, and feedback cycles.Credentials
