Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Is the Eye the Future?

Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and More! The eye is called the window into the brain and there are many studies beginning to explore if examination of the eye can determine an earlier diagnosis for these neurodegenerative diseases. Let's explore the scientific literature and provide an overview of how we can use the eye to learn more about many neurodegenerative diseases. This could result into a podcast, blog, potential review publication, or more!

What is it like to be a Caregiver?

Caring for an individual with a severe disease is the hardest job any family member can have. This project would result in a podcast series that would have two parts. First to explore the scientific literature and discuss how many Americans serve as a caregiver, caregiver burnout, caregiver empathy, and more. Secondly, it would be to showcase family member caregivers through interviews to allow people to step inside the shoes of these individuals.

Can a TedTalk Change Society's Perception?

Schizophrenia is a neurological disease that is poorly understood by the public. This project would involve creation of a survey to evaluate if a TedTalk given by an individual with schizophrenia could change a person's initial perception of the disease. In this project, a student would create and administer a pre and post-survey to evaluate if this made people think differently.
