Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Fiction Writing

Sometimes it's easier to tell the truth in fiction, where you can weave tales beyond the confines of our shared reality. Or, maybe you just want to work on telling fun and interesting stories! Contact me if you're interested in learning the art and practice of fiction writing; we'll work on developing your skills and process, finding your style and voice, and learning from the work of other writers with similar approaches and preoccupations. Then, we'll design a long-term project that fits your goals — drafting and revising your work as we explore the process of taking a piece of writing from conception to completion.

Narrative Nonfiction

Is there a story from your life you have the burning urge to tell? Or maybe there's a narrative, an object, or a story out in the world that you hope to explore through writing. Come talk to me if you want to learn more about narrative nonfiction — a wide and far-reaching discipline that encompasses everything from personal essays and essay collections to public-facing articles and critical work. We'll explore work that aligns with your interests and explore your own voice and process, culminating in a project that allows you to tell your story — whatever that may be!
