Bio

Alicia Herder is a writer-director for both stage and film, a producer, and a podcaster. Her short films, "Good Girl" and "Diego on my Mind," have been applauded for the films’ artistry and prevalence in regional film festival success. In her producing work, Alicia champions other women to tell their stories. Alicia produced the feature film, "La Leyenda Negra," which was an Official Selection at the Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for a Film Independent John Cassavetes Spirit Award and a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding TV Movie. Alicia also hosts the comedy podcast, WITCH, YES! that is currently streaming in 58 countries. Alicia truly believes in putting in the work to discover and strengthen your artistic voice and vision. Once you can own your voice, only then will we create more complex and heartfelt stories, initiate a dialogue for change, and enact that change into the world.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Produce Your Own Short Film

Write, direct, and film a short film. Revise your script to follow the Aristotelian story structure. Work with friends and peers to act in your film. Create a shot list and storyboard of the film. Go out and film it.

Investigation on Acting Methodologies

Compare the acting methodologies of Stanislavski, Meisner, and the Method technique. Learn the different tools and resources for each technique. Choose a monologue and research how you would prepare to deliver the monologue using each technique.

Teaching experience

I have taught film and theatre development and instructional classes as a Teaching Associate at UCLA. I am a professional filmmaker and can advise on creative writing, creating an artistic vision, implementing a plan to execute a production, and working with actors and other artistic collaborators.
