Bio
I am a PhD student studying linguistics and data science. My research focuses on the use of the larynx in speech, especially tone, length, and voice quality. I am also interested in creating computational tools to apply theoretical findings to research and practical applications. When I am not doing research, I enjoy trail running and hiking with my dog, and learning new things.Project ideas
Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.
Phonetic analysis of tone
Use computational processing to quantify and describe tone system in using an understudied language. For example, using clustering to identify common tone patterns and use that information to label speech.

JapaneseTeaching experience
I have mentored small groups of undergraduates on research projects in linguistics, especially with a computational component. I also have experience teaching workshops on Python, R, and machine learning.Credentials
