- Research Program Mentor

J.D. candidate at Stanford Law School

Expertise

American founding history and philosophy; Public Speaking/Debate; Law-general

Bio

I grew up in Southern California and received a BA in Political Science with a focus in International Relations from UC San Diego. My senior thesis project was about hostage-taking practices of terrorist groups. After completing my undergraduate studies, I moved to Washington, D.C. where I spent a year in the legal department of an investment firm and then a year as a paralegal in the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice. I'm in my final year at Stanford Law School, after which I will be pursuing a practice in corporate law in the Bay Area.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Research Paper:

Having done many papers myself, I am happy to help students pick an appropriate research topic or question to dive into. I have done quite a bit of editing, so I'm comfortable assisting with organization of the paper and editing specific language to help students become concise and clear writers.

Presentation:

Some students may prefer an oral presentation rather than a paper, and I think that is a great way to communicate the same type of information! A presentation can take many forms, whether that be a powerpoint, a Ted talk-like explanation, or a poster board accompanied by a verbal explanation of the information presented. I've given many presentations and debated for years, so I would be thrilled to help students hone their oratory skills and build their confidence.

Teaching experience

In college I served as a teaching assistant for political science classes and helped the university launch its First Year Experience program. I helped students produce research, prepare for debates, and generally navigate the challenges of the first year of college. During my time at Stanford I have served as a teaching assistant at the Graduate School of Business. I have helped students develop their writing skills, specifically to produce concisely-written memos. I currently assist with a course where students develop their own projects in teams to help communities being impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
