Project null

- Introduction to college essay-writing through the close reading of a great work of philosophy or literature. Student and mentor will read the text together, discuss questions of interest to the student, and practice the techniques of exegesis that might be expected in a college humanities class. Student will end up with a short (1500-3000 word) essay that could be used for college applications or as a writing sample. - Learn Python by completing the coursework equivalent of a university computer science 101 class. Student will start from programming basics, learning the fundamentals through a series of short projects designed to teach a different aspect of coding. A solid grasp of these fundamentals may allow the student to place out of a college 100-level course. Basic familiarity with computer science concepts helpful but not assumed. - Build a simple AI chatbot using IBM Cloud in order to master the basics of web development (APIs, web scraping, JavaScript single-page apps, etc.). Some prior coding experience required.
