Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Deciphering the pangenomic evolution of Listeria monocytogenes species

This project consists of determining the core genome (genes shared by all genomes), the accessory genes (shared by 15% to 98% of analysed genomes), and specific genes (shared by 1 to 2% of analysed genomes). You'll use this information to decipher the genomic characteristics of a particular group of L. monocytogenes involved in a specific phenomenon (diseases, outbreak link to food or environmental pollution etc..).

Exploring human oro-pharyngial microbiota using a computational approach

This project involves deciphering the microbial diversity of human oro-pharyngeal cavity using DNA metabarcoding approach. We will be using publicly available data from NCBI. You will learn how to choose and use computational tools to analyze metagenomic datasets and determine various diversities including alpha and beta diversity of microbiota.
