Bio

Hi! My name is Kathy, and I am currently working in the field of Public Health and Advocacy on topics ranging from HIV, STIs, sexual health, COVID-19, and homelessness. I have a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Community Health Sciences, which looks at ways of improving the health and well-being of populations through some of the following lenses: socioeconomic, racial/ethnic, gender, occupational, and cultural. I am extremely interested in the field of women's health and sexual health, which translates to real-world issues such as abortion laws, sexual health education, and reproductive health resources. I am a first generation college graduate and immigrated from Vietnam as a child, so my Asian American identity often translates into my career and personal interests. For example, I love cooking and eating Asian food (among all other varieties of food) and I love travelling and learning new cultures. I hope to mentor students and provide that guidance that I did not grow up having access to.

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Sexual Health Literacy among Low-income Minority Populations

There is a lack of sexual health education among low-income, minority populations, especially those with backgrounds of immigration or have a high prevalence of non-English speakers. How can we address this discrepancy and bridge that gap in sexual health knowledge, so that these communities can have equitable access to sexual health care?
