Bio

Hi! My name's Mina & it's great to meet you! I am very enthusiastic about fostering an appreciation for learning and STEM specifically. I enjoy both babysitting and tutoring kids and am a certified EMT. I love finding ways to connect my passions for teaching, engineering, and biological mindsets. I enjoy working as a research assistant at Tufts University, where I am completing my masters of science in biomedical engineering this academic year. I am a published author (https://pubs.acs.org/doi/pdf/10.1021/acsbiomaterials.2c00851) as part of the Kaplan Lab Intestinal Group during my time at Tufts (2+ years working with the lab) and am staying to continue my masters in BME here as well. As a co-founder and president of Girls Code the World (https://www.girlscodetheworld.org/), a nonprofit I founded in high school, I am passionate about inspiring the next generation of young women to enter STEM fields and completing impactful community service. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with friends, doing cycling classes, and traveling!

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Writing a literature review on the scientific topic of your choosing

The first step on any research path is finding & 'picking apart' the research that has already exists on that topic. This work will involve writing a scientific review-style paper on a relevant STEM topic of your choosing. The focus of your project should be something you are passionate about, whether that be biology, engineering, chemistry, archaeology, mathematics, etc. Examples of topics include “how do we know that atoms exist if we cannot see them?” and “describe the states of matter; what happens beyond the gaseous state?” Writing is a powerful skill especially in the realm of science! This process of researching, uncovering, and investigating scientific journal articles, as well as differentiating between primary and secondary literature sources is extremely valuable. Let’s explore a topic you are passionate about on in-depth level!

Teaching experience

I have extensive experience mentoring students in STEM & math, primarily middle school or younger students, but also some high school/college students. I also have a lot of experience with students shadowing me in the lab environment!
