What drives pelvis opening in baseball pitching?

Baseball pitching uses the whole body to develop and transfer power from the ground up through the throwing hand, ultimately into the ball. One of the critical links in this chain is the pelvis, which needs to rotate toward home plate before the front foot makes contact with the ground. Previous studies have consistently shown that a more open pelvis is associated with decreased upper extremity torque and increased ball velocity, but how that pelvis rotation is produced has yet to be explored. This project will require review of the pitching movement and the biomechanical principles governing energy transfer in pitching before we get too far into the specific role of the pelvis, so come ready to read, think and learn! Ultimately, you will aggregate studies that we review and compose a review, describing what you think drives pelvis rotation (or lack there of) in pitching.
