Bio

All of my research projects are driven by thinking about how structural aspects of the American economy play out in the day-to-day lives of communities of color. In particular, I study how Black members of Congress deliver money to their communities and how it is structured by factors such as inflation, poverty, and the environment. Outside of my work, I love music, both playing it and going to shows. I'm also working on becoming a certified birth doula.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

How Do Different Generations' Friend Groups Shape Their Politics?

Existing political science research suggests that people come to their politics through their families and the institutions around them, such as churches and their workplaces. But as less and less people participate in these type of politics-generating institutions, is it the case that their friends are taking a bigger role in shaping their politics? A potential project idea would be conducting focus groups of people at different ages, but perhaps centering on teenagers/young adults, to see how people come to their politics and what the particular impact of friendship is on young people.
