How might CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing overcome the therapeutic challenges of glioblastoma brain tumors and improve patient outcomes?

Started May 28, 2024

Abstract or project description

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is a devastating brain cancer characterized by aggressive growth, therapeutic resistance, and a dismal prognosis. Despite current treatments, GBM inevitably recurs, underscoring the urgent need for innovative approaches. CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, with its precision and versatility, has emerged as a promising tool to address GBM's therapeutic challenges. This review paper will examine the molecular underpinnings of GBM, the mechanisms of CRISPR/Cas9, and critically evaluate preclinical and clinical evidence for its application in GBM treatment, highlighting both potential benefits and current limitations.
