About

Hi! My name is Saawan Duvvuri, and I am a rising freshman! The project I aspire to complete is an economic research paper about how systemic racism has affected the modern day economic status of different minorities in America. The main focus would be on the income, net worth, and household income inequalities between African American s and Caucasian Americans in the United States. I chose to pursue this project because I have an interest in racial studies and how it correlates to economics. In university, I want to focus my major and minor(s) on political science and economics. My career goal would be becoming a civil rights attorney.

Project Portfolio

Investigating the influence of socioeconomic variables on public high school performance in the Dallas-Fort Worth area

Started Aug. 1, 2022

Abstract or project description

We will assemble data on 20-30 public high schools in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area from school websites and Niche records. We will obtain data on the school racial/ethnic composition, neighborhood median home value, and other relevant socioeconomic variables and estimate the influence of each on school performance. We will measure school performance using several measures: graduation rate, college matriculation rate, and median SAT score. The analysis will be performed using linear regression. The slope estimates measure the influence of each variable on school performance. If time allows, we will perform other analyses to explore the data, such as investigating whether schools in formerly redlined have less favorable outcomes.
