Abstract or project description

My research will uncover various things about the field of prosthetics, and how I can use my skills to contribute to the fantastic things people are doing in the industry. I plan on creating a hand/wrist exoskeleton to support joints in the hand in order to supplement the movement made by diseases like Arthritis or Parkinson's and to help aid in relief. There are a couple of goals that I would like to hold myself to in order to maximize the usefulness of the project. First, keeping costs low is very important, as It makes manufacturing more accessible and the product more accessible to those in need. At the end of my project, I plan on taking my model and creating a product launch, most likely in an open sourced format. In the future, the project will also include a computer vision integration where the customer will scan their hand to make a custom configurable model that they can 3D print and assemble themselves. Another guideline for my project is to keep the project 100 percent mechanical. That means no batteries, motors, sensors or anything. Simply mechanical engineering. It will be a challenge for me, design wise, but it will help drive costs down and make it easier to manufacture in house, with my 3D printer and CNC machine.
