Experimenting with various machine learning algorithms to classify forest tree species through hyperspectral satellite imagery

Started Oct. 22, 2021

Abstract or project description

Using remote sensing data, we will be classifying forest tree species through various machine learning algorithms. We will be using machine learning algorithms such as k-Nearest Neighbor, Random Forest, Linear Discriminant Analysis, and a Classification Tree to classify tree species from satellite imagery. Our output for each machine learning model would be a map specifying the species of the trees in a given area. Through the accuracy of the model’s output map, we will determine which machine learning model is best for classifying forest tree species.
