How can a child establish a healthy microbiome for adulthood and how does it affect our emotions?

Started Jan. 26, 2023

Abstract or project description

In today's society, we are plagued by cancers, diseases, disorders, and obesity. And not only is physical health affected but also mental health, with a growing number of mental illness throughout the American population. Research has shown by establishing a healthy microbiome in the early stages of life we can prevent many physical and mental issues throughout adulthood. Research also shows that there is an interlocking connection and relationship between the intestinal system and the brain. I aim to compile research on ways to establish a healthy gut microbiota, how it effects our emotions, and what we can prevent by nurturing the gut in child hood. I plan to display the research in a children's book in order to motivate children to have a deeper appreciation for the gut, so the younger generations are set up to have a healthier life. www.oac.edu.au/news-views/the-importance-of-good-gut-health-in-children/ www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/wellness-and-prevention/the-brain-gut-connection
