Possible inequalities in access and knowledge of oral health Care and its effect on oral health in Hispanic Immigrants in the United States
Started May 26, 2023
Abstract or project description
This project involves a literature review of articles from Google Scholar and Pubmed to examine oral health disparities in the Hispanic community. The goal is to identify factors contributing to these imbalances beyond race. The research will rely solely on secondary sources, extracting data and conclusions from existing papers. The primary objective is to investigate potential inequalities in access to oral healthcare for Hispanic immigrants compared to other US citizens. Factors such as socioeconomic status, oral health literacy, education, acculturation, and low income status disproportionately impact Hispanics and other racial minorities, leading to reduced dental visits and diminished importance placed on oral health. These factors may help explain higher rates of tooth decay and gum disease in the Hispanic population.
