Tom Gurin holds a master’s degree in music composition from the Haute école de musique de Genève and a bachelor’s degree in music from Yale University. For his master’s degree in Geneva, his concentration was in mixing real-time audio and video electronics with acoustic instruments for live performances and installations. His bachelor’s degree at Yale was focused on instrumental composition, orchestration, music history, and music analysis. Additionally, he holds a superior diploma in music composition from the École Normale de Musique de Paris and a certificate in carillon performance from the Belgian Royal Carillon School. He is a fellow of the Belgian American Educational Foundation, a previous Fulbright scholar, and a past Hays-Brandeis Fellow. His musical scores range from traditional orchestration to interactive, sound-responsive video games. In 2023, he was in residence as a multimedia artist at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris. As a historian, he conducts research on music and race in the United States during the twentieth century. He is also a carillonist and carillon composer. He has five years of one-on-one music teaching experience and has been mentoring young composers and music scholars through Polygence since 2023. Connect with him on LinkedIn.
