Bio

I had an early fascination with the human body and how it was put together. My first introduction to biomedical research was immune biology and how immune cells communicate to keep the body safe from viruses and bacteria. During medical school, the more I learned about not only the human body but about disease the more I realized that much illness can be prevented with known science. Translational research is therefore my passion as it aims to bring direct benefit to humans from what we learn at the laboratory. Specifically, I am interested in how patient safety, comfort, and outcomes can be improved for patients undergoing surgeries. Outside of my career and research aspirations I love to read and learn about the up and coming technologies of the future. Whether it is space exploration, nuclear physics, agriculture, or gene therapies I love to think on what may be possible soon. I am also an avid hiker and love to systematically explore the trails near where I currently happen to be living.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Writing a Review article

I work with each student to develop a research question of their interest into a systematic review article. I have specific experience in anesthesia clinical practice but can guide students with a diverse range of topics within clinical medicine. Students will learn broadly applicable skills in how to critically assess primary literature, how to systematically search for literature, and how to present what they find in an articulate and succinct form.

Teaching experience

From high school onwards I have enjoyed tutoring and mentorship. During high school, I tutored middle school students in math and science. During college I was a TA for a number of classes including biochemistry, biology, and general chemistry. In addition I volunteered with a service organization in DC which provided mentoring and tutoring for to elementary school students in lower income neighborhoods. With the same organization I also volunteered with a boy scouts troop in DC and helped them plan and create a walking path in the woods behind the church they gathered. During medical school I shifted more towards mentoring 1st and 2nd year students in achieving their research goals by setting them up with projects in the anesthesia apartment. This involved acquainting with submitting IRB proposals, creating a data collection plan, statistical analysis, and manuscript writing.
