The Cost of Making Learning Easier

Learning struggle image

“What terrifies me most? A generation that thinks struggle = inefficiency. That effort is the enemy of learning. The hard work of figuring out what you want to say? That's not busy work. That's literally how you become yourself." - Abby Falik (Harvard MBA, Stanford M.Ed., Futurist and Founder).

ChatGPT overuse causes cognitive decline

A new MIT study titled, Your Brain on ChatGPT: Accumulation of Cognitive Debt when Using an AI Assistant for Essay Writing Task, has found that using ChatGPT to help write essays leads to long-term cognitive harm. Students who repeatedly relied on ChatGPT showed weakened neural connectivity, impaired memory recall, and diminished sense of ownership over their own writing.

“Here’s a statistic I’ve been thinking about recently: In 1976, if you asked high school seniors whether they had read any books in the last year for fun, about 40 percent of them read at least six books for fun in the last year, and only about 11 percent hadn’t read a single book for fun. Today, those numbers are basically reversed: About 40 percent haven’t read a single book for fun.” - Ezra Klein, We Have To Rethink The Purpose of Education
