The Neurological Effects of Recreational Cannabis Use in Adolescence

Started Mar. 28, 2023

Abstract or project description

This research paper intends to focus on the neurological effects of recreational cannabis use in adolescence. The use of cannabis recreationally in the United States has increased immensely over the course of the last decade. However, more information is needed to further analyze the effects on the developing brain over time. This paper will cover the concepts of short-term and long-term effects on neuro physical responses as a result of chronic cannabis use. Various different outcomes of using cannabis will be explored, such as neurological, emotional, physical, and cognitive effects. The correlation between cannabis and neurological disorders will also be discussed. The underlying effects of chronic use of cannabis will also be explored through discussion of treatments and possible therapies to reverse the damaging results of the drug. The purpose of this paper is to shine light on this topic in hopes of informing those of the consequences of using cannabis during adolescence.

How does the positive perceptions of cannabis use among teenagers decrease the perceived negative impacts on their lungs?

Started Apr. 17, 2022

Abstract or project description

The use of cannabis in teenagers has rapidly increased over the course of the last two decades. In addition, in the last ten years the potency of cannabis has drastically increased. This particular age range is especially vulnerable to changes and therefore it is important to understand the association to increased cannabis use during this time. This study plans to investigate this through surveying high school students. We hypothesize that more positive perceptions of cannabis use will be related to worse lung health (e.g. increase in coughing, more prone to lung infections). This research will benefit medical clinicians so that they can better inform adolescents of the negative consequences of cannabis use during this time.
