Gender Differences in Attitudes Toward Computer Science Activities in Elementary Students

Started Apr. 13, 2023

Abstract or project description

Lizzie is interested in gender equity issues in the computer science field. In her preliminary literature search, she found that gendered stereotypes stemming from childhood continue to affect attitudes toward this field through college. This leads to the comparatively low percentage of females who pursue CS majors and enter this field. Her research questions are: What attitudes do elementary school students have toward computer science activities in and around the Seattle area? What factors help shape these attitudes? Is there a difference according to gender? She will do an in-person paper survey in order to collect parent consent at the same time.
