Abstract or project description
Why are some people reluctant to switch to electric vehicles (EV) because of their lack of engine/exhaust sound? This project aims to answer this question by correlating user preferences of exhaust sounds to audio signal analysis. Car show participants will be interviewed and asked to rate various exhaust sounds on a scale of 1-7. During the interviews, the sound of the exhaust will be recorded and analyzed using an iPhone and associated apps. Basic statistics will be performed to determine if there are any correlations between the acoustics and preferences. This project will be showcased via a series of youtube videos that not only show the interviews, cars, sounds, etc., but also detail the research method used to conduct this project. The results will offer more insight on how electric vehicles may be altered in order to appeal to a bigger audience.
