Effect of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Lung Cancer Patients

Started Feb. 1, 2022

Abstract or project description

Flora is drafting a paper on COVID and lung cancer. This is the abstract that we drafted today: COVID-19 is a highly-infectious respiratory disease that caused a global pandemic in 2019, forcing many countries to go on lockdown. COVID-19 has greatly impacted patients with lung cancer. Lung cancer is a common cancer diagnosis with the highest mortality rate in the United States, most often affecting the elderly 65 years of age or older. With the COVID-19 pandemic reaching its peak, many patients have been faced with the prospect of decreased accessibility of physician consultation, reduced availability of lung cancer screening, and forced postponement of their treatment plans. These factors have resulted in detrimental consequences for lung cancer patients around the world.
