Abstract or project description
Personal care items such as deodorants and antiperspirants are applied to the body in order to prevent sweating and eliminate odor. There has been a recent trend toward aluminum-free deodorants, which are popular because consumers want products that contain natural ingredients. Nonetheless, there is a shortage of literature on direct comparison between the performance of aluminum-free and mineral-based deodorants in terms of their moisture-blocking capacity. In this study, the stability test, pH test, diffusion barrier test, and simulated-sweat-reduction test were used. The deodorants tested include mineral-based deodorant (Crystal) and two aluminum-free deodorants (Salt & Stone and Rio Deo). In the case of Salt and Stone, the mass increase was minimal (7.89%) compared to that of Rio Deo (13.16%) and Crystal (23.68%). These trends were also reflected in the diffusion barrier test where Crystal had the most dye spread, and Salt and Stone, and Rio Deo were limited in the spread. It was observed in the stability test that the color, texture, smell, and phase separation did not change after two weeks of exposure to room temperature. Overall, the deodorants based on the aluminum-free type showed more effectiveness in the aspect of preventing moisture under the conditions of the experiment.
