Abstract or project description
This project will look at Northrop Grumman’s GEM63XL solid rocket booster and potential ways to optimize its performance. This will be obtained by modifying the grain geometry of the booster and its propellant mixture. The optimization will be measured by comparing the GEM63XL Thrust vs Time curve to my solution. In addition, the project will apply the optimization to a launch profile involving a mission that gets the rocket with the GEM63XL booster and its payload to a stable orbit around the Earth for deployment. The project will deliver a new solid rocket booster that includes a new propellant mixture, grain geometry, and grain distribution.
