Does transcranial stimulation induced discomfort impact decision-based cognitive performance?

Started July 7, 2023

Abstract or project description

This project will investigate the impact of brain stimulation targeting the dorsomedial prefrontal cortex on engagement in mental effort. The study questions whether the stimulation protocol employed might have induced feelings of physical discomfort, potentially influencing cognitive performance responses. The researchers intend to analyze participants' discomfort scores to identify any unexpected effects of discomfort on cognitive performance, using a simpler correlational model in contrast to the original study's complex mathematical model. Future research is suggested to explore less invasive stimulation methods. Another area of further research would include ensuring that there are equal discomfort levels among participants before task commencement.
