Started Mar. 11, 2025

Abstract or project description

Sophia is working on researching what dietary components are most crucial in promoting a healthier microbiome in adult domestic dogs. Things that she will consider in doing her research include dietary factors such as protein, fiber, pre and probiotics, omega 3-fatty acids, diseases that result from dysbiosis in the microbiome, and the common trend of raw diets and which health risks accompany this trend.

Diagnostic, treatment, and recovery approaches for equine osteoarthritis

Started June 14, 2023

Abstract or project description

Equine osteoarthritis is a debilitating condition that can lead to lameness in horses. This review covers up-to-date diagnostics, treatment, and recovery approaches. There are several diagnostic methods for equine osteoarthritis that are available, including a gait analysis, thermal imaging, ultrasonographic tools, and radiographic tools. Additionally, there is an escalating treatment paradigm, with therapies including oral joint supplements, physical therapy, and, importantly, hock injections, which are explored in greater detail. The level of escalation is explored based on diagnostic results. The background of each treatment is also explained thoroughly and explains how each of them affects the joints. Overall, this review finds that many existing treatment methods are effective at improving equine joint function.
