Reducing the Stigma Surrounding Homelessness and Mental Health in the US

Started Apr. 21, 2023

Abstract or project description

The goal of Sophia's project is to really take a deep dive into the current literature to address and hopefully educate others about the many stigmas surrounding homelessness in the US. In light of many of the preconceived notions pertaining to how people become homeless or remain homeless, the goal here is to highlight the need for mental health diagnosis and assistance to aid homeless individuals in their overall wellbeing. Sophia hopes to do this through an informative literature review that also provides solutions to how we as a nation can treat the homeless with the same level of respect as we would other individuals. Because Sophia also has a desire to incorporate entrepreneurship into this project as an extension, she is thinking about a nonprofit as well. Publishing this research would provide more ethos to the truth behind this message and creating a website would give wider access to the public. The goal of this non-profit would be to educate the community on how much of the truth behind the reasoning for the abundance of homelessness has to do with issues in mental illness, which is often overlooked.
