Abstract or project description

The goal of this project is to compare and contrast how artificial vs. biological neural networks process information, specifically in the area of sensory perception of roughness of surfaces. Areas of comparison include:

  • mehanotransduction
  • signal encoding
  • signal integration The advantages and disadvantages of both systems will be compared with the aim of identifying ideas that can be borrowed from the biological neuron to help augment the artificial neural network.
