The Detrimental Effect of Micro and Nano Plastics on the Human Brain

Started June 27, 2025

Abstract or project description

Micro and Nano Plastics are tiny plastic particles that originate from the breakdown of larger plastic waste and have been found in food, water, and air. Emerging research suggests that these tiny particles can cross biological barriers, leading to inflammation, oxidative stress, and neurodegenerative diseases.

How might microplastics affect the human brain, and what evidence supports potential links to neurological harm? We are focusing on existing research on how microplastics enter the brain and how they are connected to issues like inflammation, memory loss, and cognitive decline. The goal is to understand what is already known and what still needs to be studied.
