Determine the severity of arthritis using X-ray images

Abstract or project description

The student aims to explore deep learning models to predict severity of arthritis from X-ray images. This is a supervised learning classification problem using image classification models. We aim to train CNN models to classify images into severity categories, then use explainable machine learning techniques like gradCam to identify regions of interest that contribute to the predictions. We are still working on ways to make the project more unique and the student has said that he will try and get some of his family member's x-rays to test the validity of the CNN model. That said, there is much to be learned as the student is inexperienced with neural networks but there are several resources they can use to bring themselves up to speed.
