Abstract or project description

Throughout the world, it is apparent that internet use is becoming increasingly hazardous to our future generations. This study employs data visualization and machine learning techniques to address the most critical questions parents must consider when determining whether their child has a case of Problematic Internet Use (PIU). Problematic Internet Use (PIU) has become a serious issue in our society today, with internet use increasing by nearly 1000% (Kuss, Lopez-Fernandez). Youth are especially at risk, as their engagement with technology continues to expand. PIU is characterized by excessive or poorly controlled preoccupation, urges, or behaviors regarding internet use, leading to impairment or distress in daily life. The Severity Impairment Index (SII), derived from the Parent-Child Internet Addiction Test (PCIAT), is a robust measure that categorizes PIU into four levels: None, Mild, Moderate, and Severe, enabling targeted assessment.
