Project Portfolio

What is dark matter, and what evidence exists to support it? What is the standard model of particle physics and what are theoretical particle candidates for dark matter?

Started Apr. 30, 2025

Abstract or project description

My project is a research paper that begins with a description of dark matter as a hypothetical, invisible, non-luminous matter. I then write about some of the observational evidence that lead scientist to theorise dark matters existence including galaxy rotation curves, gravitational lensing, galaxy/bullet clusters, the cosmic microwave background, and structure formation. After that my paper begins to slightly shift into a brief description of the standard model of particle physics and it's flaws, including the lack of explanation of the elementary particle that makes up dark matter. Finally I explain possible particle candidates for dark matter such as the axion, WIMPs and more.
