Insights to Reducing Susceptibility to False Memories Through Music Composition

Started May 22, 2023

Abstract or project description

A personal project goal for Sara is to conduct an experiment that adds to the research in the field of false memory, since it is scarce, and contribute to a better understanding of it. By conducting an experiment rather than a review, she will add to the existing literature or the lack thereof with the hopes of providing a hypothetical yet testable means to prevent harmful false memories in individuals. The objective is to identify increases/decreases in susceptibility to false memory based on independent variables. This will be made possible by adapting an existing survey with independent measures as well as the dependent outcome. Moreover, she hopes to highlight the utility of creating music (composing, playing an instrument, etc.) since the existing literature mostly looks at the effects of listening to music in relation to false memory susceptibility.
