Policy recommendations for promoting regenerative agriculture in California

Abstract or project description

Regenerative agriculture has many benefits, including carbon sequestration, pollinator habitat, improved soil health and drought mitigation. While there are many reasons to adopt regenerative agriculture practices, this form of agriculture has not been widely adopted by farmers. This paper will explore some of the reasons behind farmers not adopting regenerative agriculture practices, using case studies from both an avocado and pistachio farm in California. By understanding the obstacles holding farmers back, the paper will provide policy recommendations that incentivize this type of agriculture. The recommendations will be informed by science-based evidence using the latest research findings about regenerative agriculture.
