Biological mechanisms affected during cancer that lead to depression?

Started Mar. 12, 2026

Abstract or project description

This project focuses on the intersection between cancer and mental health, specifically examining why a significant proportion of cancer patients develop depression. Robyn will be writing a review article that will explore key mechanisms such as cancer-related inflammation and how it may alter brain function, contributing to depressive symptoms. It will also evaluate the impact of cancer treatments, which may further disrupt biological pathways involved in mood regulation. Overall, the project aims to synthesize current evidence to clarify how cancer and its associated physiological changes contribute to the development of depression.
