Project Portfolio

Epigenetic regulations of the intrinsic properties of HVC neurons in zebra finches under stuttering

Started Jan. 15, 2025

Abstract or project description

I will be analyzing a dataset collected at Arij's lab at UChicago from cortical HVC neurons in songbirds. These birds were subjected to stuttering via delayed auditory feedback. I will be using heavy coding and statistics to prove the neural data for each neuron in control and disease case and extract their features, compare and report. Some of the specific intrinsic properties are firing frequency, threshold, peak voltage, time-to-peak AP, AHP, time-to-peak AHP, and spike width. I will also be conducting a literature review for the first part of the paper, mentioning research on auditory feedback, stuttering, songbird vocalizations, intrinsic plasticity and properties.
