A wrist-worn device for the identification of nervous hand gestures.

Started Mar. 9, 2022

Abstract or project description

The student is working on developing a device that is capable of monitoring arm/hand movements so that the wearer can be notified when they have performed a habitual nervous motion. When nervous, people often perform habitual motions, and a device that is able to recognize those motions and notify the user that they have done so would be useful in breaking those habits. The purpose of the students project is to develop a wrist-worn device that monitors and identifies these motions. The device will consist of wrist-worn sensors that measure accelerations and angular velocities. A machine learning approach will be utilized to develop classifier model that recognizes the desired nervous input motion, and can then notify the wearer via a vibratory actuator.
