Decoding Hand Movements from EEG Signals

Started Mar. 21, 2025

Abstract or project description

The student is working on a neuroscience and machine learning project that explores how brain activity can be used to decode hand movements. Specifically, the project focuses on analyzing EEG (electroencephalogram) signals collected while individuals imagine or perform left- and right-hand movements. By using publicly available EEG datasets, the student preprocesses the signals, extracts relevant features, and applies machine learning techniques to classify the intended movement. The goal is to build a simple brain-computer interface (BCI) that can accurately distinguish between left and right hand motor imagery. Through this project, the student is gaining hands-on experience in data science, signal processing, and neurotechnology, while also learning about the broader implications of BCIs for medical and assistive applications.
