The role of Design Thinking in Teaching Problem Solving Skills in U.S. Youth: A Review of the Literature

Started Sept. 30, 2021

Abstract or project description

In today’s world, the education system prepares students for what to think rather than how to think. With a rapidly changing future, it is critical that students understand how to adapt rather than focusing on skills like memorization, recall and fear of creativity. Design Thinking is a human centric approach to creative problem solving that is the perfect solution to our education crisis. When students are able to apply the process to real world problems, they develop skills of problem solving, critical thinking and creativity. With these skills, they are empowered to change the world around them and become prepared for the workplace of the future. The goal of this paper is to provide an overview on how design thinking can improve problem solving skills and analyze how the education system can adapt to teach students these skills.
