Acute and chronic effects of antibiotics usage on the gut microbiome

Started June 3, 2025

Abstract or project description

Pracheth is working on a project on the gut microbiome. His main focus is on how a lack of diversity in symbiotic microorganisms, mostly caused by antibiotics usage, leads to subsequent downstream symptoms like digestive issues and mood disorder. Pracheth will be combining a meta analysis with a community survey to provide new data on how this affects people in his specific community while also studying the literature. His project will combine existing data with the data gathered in his survey to show the impact of antibiotic usage on the gut as well as discussing other alternatives to antibiotics. He will discuss different treatments for increasing biodiversity in the gut after antibiotic usage.
