About

Hi, I'm Jack. I like all things Computer Science. I am currently a senior at Cy Woods High School, where I lead our school's Computer Science and Math clubs as president. I find great interest in finding solutions for real-world problems through interdisciplinary collaboration in research and innovation, specifically in using AI and ML for applications centered around human life. Currently, I'm focusing on the intersection of computer science and healthcare with the hope of increasing the prevalence of machine assistance in both general and specialized healthcare procedures. I'm always open to talk (about anything), so feel free to email me at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]).

A Machine Learning-based Early Diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease

Started Apr. 22, 2021

Abstract or project description

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is one of the most common neurodegenerative diseases in the world. Though there is no cure, an early detection of AD, when signs of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) are shown, may be critical to allow for treatment that may further prolong the patient’s brain function. In this study, we present a generalized classification model using a three-dimensional DenseNet architecture for AD diagnosis through whole-brain magnetic resonance imaging. We then evaluated our classifier on two different datasets to assess both its performance as well as the validity of MCI as a precursor stage for AD. We find that our model achieved high accuracies upwards of 80%, indicating that our classifier succeeds in providing a preliminary diagnosis of AD from magnetic resonance imaging.
