P53’s role in cellular senescence and apoptosis in cells with DNA damage

Abstract or project description

P53, often called as the "guardian of the cell," is a a transcription factor highly inducible by many stress signals such as DNA damage and oncogene activation. Though p53's been studied in various cellular processes, cell-cycle arrest and apoptosis are the most prominent outcomes of p53 activation. This review focuses on the apoptosis and senescence functions of p53 and the regulation of cell fate decisions after p53 activation.
