Beyond the Classroom: How Does Academic Pressure Influence Anxiety and Depression in Students?

Started Oct. 25, 2024

Abstract or project description

Academic pressure is prevalent in schools all around the world across all levels, from elementary school to graduate school, significantly contributing to student mental health challenges. This paper explores the role of academic pressure in the development of depression and anxiety. Using the biopsychosocial model, the paper analyzes how psychological stress, social expectations, and biological vulnerability interact to play a role in the development of depression and anxiety. Having examined possible causes, this paper explores effects beyond mental illness. Academic pressure is a multifaceted system affecting both students’ psychological and physical well-being. The research examines how depression and anxiety can manifest physically, through symptoms like trouble sleeping, fatigue, and other health issues. Given the wide-ranging effects of academic pressure, this paper emphasizes the importance of increased, personalized mental health approaches in schools through accessible support systems, resources, and awareness of how academic stress affects student health.
