The Use of Machine Learning to Decode Neural Activity in the Motor Cortex of Primates

Abstract or project description

Misha is working on a machine learning-based algorithm to decode the direction of arm movement from a population of motor neurons. This has been achieved using two methods; population vector and maximum likelihood estimation. Misha's challenge will be to find a third ML algorithm that can also be used; however, the goal would be to increase prediction accuracy. This method will be implemented in MATLAB or Python.
