What brain region or neural network encodes semantic memory?

Started Oct. 23, 2024

Abstract or project description

Memory can be defined as an essential cognitive function that permits individuals to acquire, retain, and recover data (sridhar). There are three types of memory: working memory, declarative memory, and non-declarative memory. This project will focus on a type of declarative memory, termed semantic memory, which involves the collection of facts, knowledge, and information. Presently, there is a gap in the research in that a consensus of the location of semantic memory in the brain has not been established. Therefore, I decided to do my project focusing on this topic. Specifically, I will use a combination of two databases, NeuroSynth and NeuroQuery, to analyse and map brain regions best correlated with semantic memory.
